If you are a motorcyclist, you may be worried about the potential consequences of an accident, which include a permanent disability that leaves you unable to walk, broken bones, financial problems and even death. If you ride a motorcycle in Orange County, or another part of California, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the chances of an accident and to protect yourself in the event that something goes wrong.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration points out some of the ways that motorcyclists can try to reduce the likelihood of a motorcycle crash. For example, you should inspect your motorcycle prior to riding it in order to make sure that your brakes work, your fluids are at the correct level, your signals are functioning appropriately and your tire pressure is correct. Moreover, you should be fully accustomed to your motorcycle before taking it for a ride, have proper licensing and wear a helmet.

You should also watch out for other dangers that may increase the chances of an accident, such as poor weather conditions, excessive fatigue and intoxication due to alcohol, illegal drugs or over-the-counter drugs. Sadly, these factors have also caused many deadly wrecks.

Sadly, some motorcycle accidents happen because of the negligence of other people. For example, a drunk driver or someone who is not paying attention may strike a motorcyclist, or you may crash your motorcycle because of bad signage. When someone else’s behavior causes a motorcycle crash, they must be held responsible for the different forms of suffering they have caused.
