In the past three years, there have been 288 fatal or injurious motorcycle accidents within the jurisdiction of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Moreover, California has seen a dramatic rise in motorcycle fatalities since 2010, which had a decade-low of 352 statewide.

Law enforcement in Orange County is emphasizing the importance of safety on the part of drivers and riders alike, and recently the OCSD conducted a Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation.

Extra officers were on duty on June 26, patrolling areas where motorcycle traffic tends to be higher and where accidents frequently occur. It was emphasized that officers would continue to be on the lookout for violations by drivers and riders.

According to California collision data, the leading causes of motorcycle accidents are speeding, unsafe turning and alcohol impairment on the part of riders and drivers alike.
