It may be easy for some motorists to remember that there are a variety of different ways to legally use California roadways, potentially placing the lives of those using the roadways in ways other than with a motor vehicle in jeopardy. Unfortunately, such forgetfulness can have serious consequences and can result in dangerous bicycle accidents, for example. In fact, police are currently looking for the driver of a vehicle that was reportedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident.
The accident happened on a day in August. According to reports, the 59-year-old victim was stopped on the shoulder of a California road on his bicycle. Unfortunately, the driver of a motor vehicle reportedly lost control on a curve, striking the bicyclist.
The driver is said to have fled the scene. Police say that they have identified a person of interest in the case. However, they are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact them.
When a person passes away, his or her family are left grieving; when that loss is the result of someone's negligence, the grief and pain are sometimes even stronger. Unfortunately, many people who lose loved ones in bicycle accidents are also often concerned about their financial situation. Few people are fully prepared for the unexpected loss of a loved one as lost wages and funeral expenses can quickly become overwhelming. In this case, once the driver is identified, the man's surviving family members have the option of filing a wrongful death lawsuit. While a successfully presented case will likely do little to alleviate their grief, it could provide them with sufficient financial stability to allow them to focus on their emotional recovery rather than how they will pay their bills.
