Drivers need to be vigilant at all times in order to avoid causing a car accident that could have serious consequences. This is especially true when motorcyclists are in the area. Because of the lack of protection, motorcycle accidents often cause severe injuries or even death. A recent crash in California illustrates the potential dangers motorcyclists face.
The incident happened at a California intersection one evening on a day in November. According to reports, the 31-year-old victim stopped at an intersection. When the light changed to green, he reportedly proceeded through the intersection. Unfortunately, he is said to have been struck by a van driven by a 31-year-old man; reports indicate that the van entered the intersection on either a yellow or red light.
Rescue workers administered CPR to the motorcyclist, but he passed away after he was transported to the hospital. Police say that the driver of the van remained at the scene and was cooperating with police. While no criminal charges have been filed, the California Highway Patrol will typically refrain from making an arrest in the immediate aftermath of a crash unless the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or driving recklessly.
Unfortunately, families in California sometimes must deal with the consequences of other drivers' negligence. When motorcycle accidents result in fatalities, families are often unprepared to deal with the medical bills, funeral expenses and lost wages that follow. As a result, they may choose to turn to an experienced personal injury attorney to help them understand their legal options.
