Although motorcyclists in California and across the country have the same rights to use the roadway, they often face more risk of being injured in an accident. Because of their decreased size and relative lack of physical barriers, an accident between a motorcyclist and a traditional motor vehicle can have significant consequences. In fact, police are currently investigating a fatal accident.
Like many motorcycle crashes, it appears that a driver pulled into the path of a motorcycle, resulting in a collision. Witnesses claim that a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old woman pulled out of a parking lot at approximately 7:30 p.m. on a day in December. As a result, a 19-year-old motorcyclist who was headed east broadsided the vehicle.
The motorcyclist died at the scene of the collision. The female driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Two intersections were closed as a result of the collision while police investigated.
While planning a funeral following an unexpected death is never easy, it can be especially difficult for people during the holidays. In addition to coping with the emotions that come with a fatal accident, many families also suffer financially. If their loss is caused by the negligence of someone else, surviving family members have the option of filing a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases involving a fatal accident can help these victims in California fully understand their legal options. If claims of negligence can be proved, surviving family members could receive a financial award to help them with the financial consequences of their loss, including funeral expenses and lost wages.
