Though there are a variety of different ways to legally utilize California roadways, some options have more risks than others. In fact, motorcyclists often suffer harm in accidents caused by the negligence of other drivers on the roadways. For example, a young man was recently the victim of a fatal accident that remains under investigation.
The incident happened one afternoon on a day in mid-May. According to reports, a moving truck was headed east on a California road, approaching a T-intersection. Witnesses claim that they saw the moving truck stop at a stop sign before it proceeded to make a left turn onto northbound lanes.
Unfortunately, a northbound motorcyclist was coming. Though the motorcyclist is said to have attempted to brake, the 21-year-old rider was unable to avoid a collision. The motorcycle struck the truck, throwing the cyclist into southbound lanes of traffic. He died at the scene.
The driver of the truck reportedly remained at the scene. It is unclear if criminal charges are expected to be filed, but the fatal accident remains under investigation. Unfortunately, a family is now facing the devastating, unexpected loss of their loved one; in addition to their emotional loss, they may also face financial complications as a result of funeral expenses. Many who have lost a loved one in such a manner in California have opted to file a wrongful death lawsuit. While a successfully presented case will likely do little to lessen their grief, it can provide them with the financial security to allow them to focus on their overall recovery.
