There are a variety of different ways to legally use California roadways; while many people choose a traditional motor vehicle, others may choose to ride a motorcycle or bicycle or to walk. Unfortunately, those in the latter groups may face additional risks. If they are struck by a traditional vehicle, for example, they have little to no physical barriers to protect them from injury. As such, traditional motorists must remain vigilant at all times. In fact, a recent fatal accident in California demonstrates the potential harm that some people face.
The accident happened just after noon on a day in October. It involved a 17-year-old on a motorcycle and a 30-year-old driving a pickup truck. Reports indicate that the motorcyclist was approaching an intersection when the pickup truck driver attempted a left turn.
Unfortunately, a collision occurred. Rescue workers transported the motorcyclist to the hospital for treatment of his severe injuries, but he ultimately passed away. The pickup driver, who reportedly did not see the motorcyclist, is said to have remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Investigators have since released a statement claiming that they do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision and are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to contact them.
In the meantime, the parents of the deceased teenager are left facing the unfathomable task of planning their child's funeral as a result of the fatal accident. In addition to their grief, some families are also left struggling financially as a result of funeral costs and the time they must miss from work. As a result, many choose to seek recompense in a California civil court. If they can successfully argue that their loss was the result of the pickup truck driver's negligence, they could receive a financial award that could leave them better prepared to face the financial consequences of their loss.
